Dean Acheson, U.S. Secretary of State, born Dean Gooderham Acheso, in Middletown, Connecticut, on April 11, 1893. After being educated at Yale University (1912-1915) and Harvard Law School (1915-18) he became private secretary to the Supreme Court Justice, Louis Brandeis from 1919 to 1921. Cyrus R. Vance was born on March 27, 1917, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He attended Yale University and earned his B.A. in 1939 and his LL.B. in 1942.
